Laser Surgery
Laser surgery is the use of focused light to achieve a specific desired outcome. Lasers are made up of a uniform wavelength of coherent light that can target a particular problem in the skin while minimizing damage to the surrounding tissue. Because each issue that a patient might want to address requires a different wavelength and pulse duration, a cutting edge cosmetic dermatologist must have access to a variety of different lasers. At Derick Dermatology, we have many different lasers that are used for a great variety of cosmetic therapies.

Our VBeam perfecta (pulsed dye laser) emits a 595 nm wavelength of light. This wavelength is ideally suited to target red pigment in the skin. This laser successfully treats flushing in the skin, especially in areas such as the nose and cheeks. It also treats red facial veins and angioma (the small red spots that appear on our skin as we age).

Our Alex TriVantage laser has the capacity to emit three different wavelengths of light from a single machine. These wavelengths are 755 nm, 1064 nm and 532 nm. Each of these wavelengths targets a different range of colors in the skin. This makes the Alex Trivantage laser an optimal tool for removing tattoos of all colors. In addition, this laser effectively removes freckles, age spots, and other unwanted brown pigmentation.

Our Ultra Pulse Encore (carbon dioxide laser) emits a 10,600 nm wavelength of light. This wavelength targets water in the skin. Treatments with this laser cause ablation of the skin tissue called resurfacing. Our resurfacing laser uses the latest fractional technology so bridges of healthy tissue can be left intact between columns of ablated skin. This allows patients to heal more quickly than they would from a non-fractionated treatment. The Ultra Pulse Encore is used to remove or reduce wrinkles in the skin, improve skin laxity, and refresh the tone and texture of photo-damaged skin.

Our GentleMAX laser can emit two different wavelengths of light. Similar to the Alex TriVantage, the GentleMAX can emit both 1064 nm and 755 nm wavelengths. The wavelength makes this laser different from the Alex TriVantage in that the pulse duration is much longer. This longer pulse means that it can deliver the energy more slowly, which is perfect for treating unwanted hair. Because this laser has two wavelengths, we have the ability to safely and effectively treat unwanted hair in skin of all colors.

Although not a laser, our IPL (intense pulsed light) device is used in a similar way. Through a process of filtering specific parts of light, focused energy can be delivered to the skin.. Because this light is not coherent, it is not specifically targeted to a particular issue. However, this allows the IPL to treat multiple issues at once. A patient who has multiple complaints that are mild in nature, such as diffuse photo damage or uneven tone and texture, can be an ideal candidate for this procedure.

"I was referred to Derick Dermatology by two separate relatives that had procedures both medical and cosmetic with positive outcomes. My experience has been better than expected with results I thought would come with 5 treatments, not just one. There are no questions that have gone unanswered and every detail explained. I look forward to working with this office and staff now and in the future

Patient Testimonials
Dr. Derick and her staff are amazing! They take the time to answer any questions I may have and they explain all the procedures clearly. I am not a big fan of needles, but for some reason, the needles are not as scary at Dr. Derick's office. I love the way I look after an office visit, which makes me feel great! I will continue to recommend all my friends to Derick Dermatology.
