CoolSculpting® by Zeltiq® is an FDA - approved treatment for sculpting the body. It removes unwanted fat through the process of cryolipolysis - a technique where the fat cells are frozen and destroyed permanently.
The patient is seated comfortably on an exam table and the area of unwanted fat is marked out. A protective gel pad is placed on the treatment area. An applicator from the Zeltiq machine is then placed on the skin in a size matched to the size of the bulge on the patient. Suction then draws the bulge into the applicator. The skin is then chilled. Each treatment takes one hour to complete. There is an average of 20 percent reduction in the size of the bulge based on clinical trials.
There is no need for anesthesia during the treatment. Most patients will read a book or check their email. Some even make conference calls. You go home that day and resume your normal activities. It takes approximately two months for the body’s natural processes to remove the fat from the area.
Zeltiq is an alternative to liposuction for patients who may not be able to get rid of a stubborn bulge. Ideal candidates are close to their ideal weight, exercise frequently and take good care of themselves. The advantages of Zeltiq over liposuction are that Zeltiq requires no needle, no downtime and no anesthesia.
